Tesla Car Computer HW4
In February 2023 pictures of Teslas newest revision of their car computer appeared, also called Hardware 4. The car computer actually consists of two separate computers: the Full Self Driving (FSD) Computer and the digital cockpit computer. Both are housed in the casing shown below:

The FSD computer is used for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and Autopilot. It processes sensor information and if necessary steers the car.
The digital cockpit computer powers the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The computers are liquid cooled.
Full Self Driving Computer
The general layout of the Full Self Driving Computer didn't change from Hardware 3 to 4. One half of the board serves as redundancy for the other half. The two biggest chips on the left and right center are identical Full Self Driving System-on-Chips designed by Tesla in cooperation with Samsung. They contain a Central Processing Unit, Graphics Processsing Unit, Neural Processing Unit, Image Signal Processor, H.265 Encoder. According to twitter user green its CPU has now 20 (up from 12) A72 cores. According to the part number printed on the RAM chips, the SoC now uses GDDR6 instead of LPDDR4 memory. This provides over five times the bandwidth from which the Neural Processing Unit inside the SoC should benefit the most.

Part | HW4 | HW3 |
---|---|---|
CPU | 20x ARM Cortex A72@2,35 GHz | 12x ARM Cortex A72 |
RAM | 8x 2 GB GDDR6, 12 Gbps, 256 bit, 384 GB/s | 8x 1 GB LPDDR4, 4.3 Gbp/s, 128 bit, 68 GB/s |
Digital Cockpit Computer
The digital cockpit computer powers the central display, instrument cluster. It contains a CPU, GPU
This new HW4 computer was found in Model X. The main components don't seem to have changed. That would mean that the bill of material Ingineerix put together is still valid.
The CPU is similiar to AMD Ryzen Embedded V1807B with four Zen cores with SMT. It contains integrated graphics. Performance should be similar to a Ryzen 5 1500X at same power consumption which uses the same core configuration. To support gaming there is, as in the previous revision, a dedicated GPU based on Navi 23 on the board. Performance should be similar to AMD Pro W6600 or RX 6600. This time however the GPU is located on the mainboard on not on a separate daughter board. This improves latency and efficiency among other things.
On HW3 the other chips were Ethernet Switches and Digital Signal Processors.
